Cancer screening
Nuwan Dharmaratne2025-09-24T14:15:38+00:00Australia has three main national population-based cancer screening programs: the BreastScreen Australia Program for breast cancer, the National Cervical Screening Program for cervical cancer, and the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program for bowel cancer. These government-run programs aim to detect cancers early to reduce illness and death, with each targeting specific age groups and using different screening methods to identify the disease at its earliest stages.
Please speak with your doctor or nurse if you want to learn more about these programs and how you can get screened.

Every day, 50 men in Australia die from preventable causes before the age of 75 that’s over 18,000 lives each year, many from conditions that could be treated or prevented with early care. Yet, men are less likely to see their GP regularly.

Covid-19 booster vaccination available

The new Covid-19 booster vaccine targeting the currently circulating JN.1 subvariant is now available. Adults aged 18-64 are eligible for a booster vaccination every 12 months. Adults 65-74 are eligible for a booster every 6 months (and recommended at least every 12 months). Adults 75 years and older are recommended to have a booster every six months. MyMedicare and HFGP

MyMedicare is a Commonwealth Government initiative which began in October 2023. It is a voluntary registration system that allows you to formally register with your usual general practice and preferred GP. This registration aims to strengthen the relationship between you, your GP, and the team at HFGP in order to provide you continuity of care in order to improve your health and wellbeing. Please note this service is only be available to our MyMedicare registered patients. Please see our MyMedicare webpage for more information.
Please use this for requests for repeat prescriptions, routine pathology requests, or ongoing referrals only, and not for new medications, sedatives or pain killers.
To qualify for this service and comply with Medicare requirements, you must have attended our practice in person sometime in the previous 12 months.
